Across the Firth Of Forth

Remember that red bridge, that crosses the Firth of Forth? Well I got to cross it when I went to North Queensferry. The bridge rattles and shakes as the direct train from Wavereley Station goes by but the experience is worth it and I wanted to do it since I arrived in Scotland. The train stops on a hill, up North Queensferry, that tiny village south of the Kingdom of Fife.

The name of this village comes from Saint Margaret of Scotland, who often used the ferry when traveling from Dunfermline (the then capital) to Edinburgh Castle. She established the village to make sure there were regular ferries for the pilgrims travelling to St Andrew. When she died in 1093 she made her last journey across the Firth of Forth and was buried in Dunfermline.

There isn’t much to see in North Queensferry, but this is a really nice trip out of the city, by the sea, and you can get really nice pics from the bridges. You can also visit the tiny lighthouse, which tells you a bit more about the history of the place and is admission free.

I hope you have a great weekend,
xx
